Opposition leader Melia: Ivanishvili politically affected by Parliament boycott

Nika Melia, a leader of the Coalition for Changes,on Friday asserted that the opposition’s refusal to enter parliament has had significant political repercussions for former Georgian Prime Minister and ruling party founder Bidzina Ivanishvili.

Melia believes the boycott, unprecedented in Georgian politics, has undermined Ivanishvili’s standing despite his claims of having exited the political arena.

“The public believes that power lies in truth, and a righteous person is stronger than a stone. What we are doing must continue—the result is inevitable,” Melia declared. He emphasized the ongoing nature of public protests, describing them as unstoppable and diverse in form.

Melia pointed to the opposition’s collective decision not to enter parliament as a turning point. “This was a first in Georgian politics. None of the opposition MPs entered parliament, and that decision became a basis for the international community to question the legitimacy of the elections,” he explained.

The move, according to Melia, has galvanized public resistance and created momentum for change. “No one seems to be tired; the protest is not slowing down,” he noted.
