The process of resetting relations between Georgia and the United States has begun and is showing encouraging progress, according to Nikoloz Samkharadze, chairman of the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee.

Speaking about recent contacts between the two countries, Samkharadze said the exchange of visits and discussions had created positive momentum and provided grounds for optimism about the future of bilateral ties.

"We had an interesting discussion on a number of issues, and the statements made by our counterparts give me reason to believe that our relations will not only be reset but will move to a new level," Samkharadze said.

He noted that further progress would require continued engagement from both Tbilisi and Washington but stressed that the most important development was that the process had already begun.

Samkharadze added one possible outcome could be a new strategic partnership agreement between Georgia and the United States, focused on delivering mutual benefits to both countries.

"By a new level, I mean the possibility of signing a new agreement on strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States, in which the key principle would be mutual benefit," he said.

Samkharadze added that discussions had already taken place around the idea and that there appeared to be preliminary agreement that any future strategic partnership should serve the interests of both Georgia and the United States.
