A Georgian parliamentary delegation has taken part in the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Vilnius, with discussions focusing on security challenges facing the alliance and the wider region.
Speaking at the event, Foreign Relations Committee Chair Nikoloz Samkharadze said the main topics on the agenda included hybrid and conventional military threats from Russia, the war in Ukraine and measures to strengthen security along NATO's eastern flank.
Samkharadze added delegates also discussed increased investment in military technology and innovation, as well as proposals related to military service in NATO member states.
He said NATO officials outlined future defence priorities, including a goal of increasing defence spending to 5% of gross domestic product among alliance members.
Samkharadze also noted remarks by a senior NATO official who described Ukraine as a testing ground for military innovation and emerging technologies, arguing that lessons from the conflict should help shape the alliance's future defence planning.
The Georgian delegation is attending the session as a partner delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Samkharadze said the participation aims to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation between Georgia and NATO.
