Georgian, Japanese lawmakers discuss expanding parliamentary cooperation, joint projects

Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee and Head of the Georgia–Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Nikoloz Samkharadze, on Tuesday met with members of Japan’s House of Representatives Karen Makishima and Hideto Kawasaki to discuss deepening bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
The meeting focused on strengthening interparliamentary ties and the importance of exchanging official visits planned for next year, which both sides described as a key step toward further enhancing political dialogue.
Particular attention was given to ongoing and prospective cooperation projects between Georgia and Japan. The parties discussed the development of mechanisms for responding to and preventing natural disasters, an area in which Japan has extensive expertise, as well as opportunities for closer cooperation in cybersecurity.
Looking ahead, the lawmakers also explored prospects for expanding people-to-people and regional ties, including the potential twinning of the resort cities of Tskaltubo and Hakone.
