Georgia has asked Luxembourg to raise the issue of resuming dialogue with the country at the European Commission level, with Tbilisi ready to discuss even the most critical issues, including the transparency law, Chair of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze said on Tuesday during a visit to Luxembourg.
Speaking after meetings with Luxembourg's parliamentary and government representatives, Samkharadze said the Georgian delegation discussed bilateral relations, regional security, Georgia's Euro-Atlantic aspirations, EU integration and economic development.
According to him, the delegation also briefed Luxembourg's officials on developments in Georgia and the wider South Caucasus, the country's role in regional peace efforts and challenges stemming from Russia's occupation of Georgian territories.
“We asked the Luxembourg side to raise the issue of resuming dialogue with Georgia with the European Commission. We are ready to continue dialogue in any format and are also prepared to discuss critical issues, including the law on transparency, which served as the formal reason for the suspension of dialogue between Georgia and the European Union,” Samkharadze said.
He added that Luxembourg's representatives responded constructively to Georgia's position and expressed hope that Luxembourg would support efforts to restore dialogue between Tbilisi and Brussels during future discussions among EU member states.
Samkharadze also said Georgia is expected to host a Luxembourg delegation in Tbilisi in the near future, while Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili is scheduled to visit Luxembourg in September.
