Civil activist Nino Datashvili arrested over alleged assault on court bailiff

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has announced the arrest of civil activist Nino Datashvili in connection with an alleged physical altercation involving a court bailiff earlier this month.
According to a statement released by the ministry on Friday, Datashvili, born in 1982, was detained by officers from the Vake-Saburtalo Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department following a judge’s ruling. She is accused of assaulting a public servant while the latter was performing official duties - a charge that carries a potential prison sentence of four to seven years under Georgian law.
The incident occurred on 9 June at Tbilisi City Court, where, according to the ministry, Datashvili allegedly disobeyed bailiff instructions and physically assaulted one of the officers.
The investigation is ongoing under Part 3 of Article 353, Section 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
