The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has announced the arrest of civil activist Nino Datashvili in connection with an alleged physical altercation involving a court bailiff earlier this month.

According to a statement released by the ministry on Friday, Datashvili, born in 1982, was detained by officers from the Vake-Saburtalo Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department following a judge’s ruling. She is accused of assaulting a public servant while the latter was performing official duties - a charge that carries a potential prison sentence of four to seven years under Georgian law.

The incident occurred on 9 June at Tbilisi City Court, where, according to the ministry, Datashvili allegedly disobeyed bailiff instructions and physically assaulted one of the officers.

The investigation is ongoing under Part 3 of Article 353, Section 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
