Georgia’s International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) on Thursday expressed confidence in a “fair ruling” to repeal the contentious Transparency of Foreign Influence law, as the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) formally registered a complaint against it.

Nino Dolidze, head of ISFED, vowed to “fight to the end” against the law, which she says opposes both Georgian legislative principles and international human rights standards.

“This law not only undermines Georgia’s development but is directed against our European future,” she said, adding that she believes the court will ultimately overturn it.

The ECHR’s move to register the suit amplifies international concerns over the law, which critics argue could curtail civil society activities in Georgia.
