Vice-Speaker Tsilosani claims ₾5,000 fine imposed on protesters is “very mild”

Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Nino Tsilosani, commented on social media regarding the recent controversy surrounding a 5,000 GEL fine imposed on many protesters, calling it “very mild compared to the damage done by agents working against their own country.”

“What an uproar they’ve caused… Yes, a 5,000 GEL fine is very mild considering the harm done by those acting against their country—especially when even that fine is paid by their foreign sponsors!” Tsilosani wrote.

Referring to the UK’s recent sanctions and the reasoning behind them, Tsilosani suggested the accusations of human rights violations likely refer to people being fined 5,000 GEL “just for blocking main roads and organizing acts of sabotage.”
