The Georgian mission of the special envoy of the President of the European Council Christian Danielson has been completed at this stage. After many hours of talks held today with the Georgian Dream and the opposition, he announced that he was leaving Tbilisi.

The positions of political opponents, according to Danielson, became closer, but the parties could not reach an agreement.

“Of the six points left by President Michel, some of them have made significant progress in various respects. On other issues, there has been less progress. Now I will return to Brussels and report all this to President Michel. I hope that the parties will now seriously assess the situation in perspective, the necessary ways to compromise, so that the mediation process is successful and its consequences are more noticeable. I really think that this is what the Georgian people deserve, ”Danielson said.

The opposition has already blamed Georgian Dream for the breakdown of the talks. At the same time, Lelo member Badri Japaridze said that the dialogue would continue. According to him, in the course of the negotiation process, the opposition, unlike the other side, turned out to be extremely constructive. He refused to talk about the details of the meeting.

At a press conference after the meeting, the leader of the "Agmashenebeli Strategy" party, Giorgi Vashadze, also said that all the blame for the failure of the talks rests with the ruling party. He added that intensive consultations will continue in the opposition. Vashadze said he has no doubts that European partners will increase their support for the Georgian opposition.

Representative of the United National Movement Akaki Minashvili said that the parties could not agree on the issue of holding early parliamentary elections in the country, as well as the release of UNM leader Nika Melia and co-owner of the Mtavari Archi channel Giorgi Rurua.

According to the leader of the "European Georgia" Gigi Bokeria, the positive side of the failure of the negotiations was that it exposed the essence of the "Georgian Dream" and the entourage of Bidzina Ivanishvili. As Bokeria said, almost no agreement was reached on any issue.
