Khatia Dekanoidze, an opposition MP, on Wednesday claimed the ruling Georgian Dream party had “nothing to brag about” on the implementation of the 12-point conditions outlined by the European Commission last year for granting Georgia the European Union’s membership candidate status.
The lawmaker said “none of the 12 priorities” could be called “fully completed”, in contrast with the claims of the ruling party officials that all recommendations would be “fully met” by the end of this month and the “ball will be in the EU’s courts” whether to grant Tbilisi the “deserved” status in December.
Dekanoidze claimed the conditions related to the depolarisation of the domestic political scene, domestic judiciary and elections, as well as deologarchisation and ensuring media freedom had not been addressed as required by the bloc.
She stressed it was due to the activeness of the country’s population and the changed geopolitical reality on the backdrop of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict that had maintained granting the status to Georgia on the agenda.
