Tbilisi City Hall has announced temporary traffic restrictions and changes to public transport routes due to a planned march in celebration of Family Purity Day on May 17. The procession will begin at Kashueti Church on Rustaveli Avenue and proceed to the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Sameba), with road closures in place from 1:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Traffic will be gradually restricted along the procession route, affecting key central areas, including Rustaveli Avenue, Nikoloz Baratashvili Bridge, Baratashvili Rise, and Avlabari Square. Access to these streets from connecting roads will also be limited throughout the day.
Public transportation will operate on altered routes. Buses and minibuses traveling between Merab Kostava and Baratashvili Streets will be rerouted along the Mtkvari River’s banks via Mikheil Javakhishvili Street. Vehicles from Avlabari and Ortachala will follow similar detours, using the Baratashvili Bridge and adjacent riverbank roads to reach their destinations.
City officials encourage drivers and commuters to plan ahead and consider alternative routes or metro transportation. The restrictions are aimed at ensuring public safety during the religious and cultural march.
