The technical staff of the Opera and Ballet Tbilisi Theatre have been on hunger strike for four days, demanding an increase in salary, saying their monthly incomes stand at around $180.

“There is nothing new. Today is the 4th day of the strike… a 35-40 percent increase in wages is not acceptable for the striking employees,” the lawyer of the trade unions told the press.

The workers went on strike on November 3, after 21 days of mediation failed.

A few hours after the start of the strike, the Opera and Ballet Theater administration responded with a statement and said it was ready to increase salaries by 35-40 percent from January 1 next year.
