Several opposition parties on Tuesday demanded 100 percent electronic voting in the 2024 parliamentary race following the recent announcement of the ruling Georgian Dream party on the introduction of electronic voting starting the next polls, noting that the system would cover about 70 percent of voters.
The Lelo and Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition parties said that the ruling party “plans to rig the remaining 30 percent”, stressing that they would accept the model if it covered all voters.
A member of the United National Movement opposition party, Levan Bezhashvili, said that the elections conducted electronically could be credible if they were held on the basis of the electronic election system of the United States or some European countries.
In his comments on Tuesday, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, said that introducing amendments to the country’s electoral legislation was among the 12-point conditions set by the European Commission in June for Georgia’s membership candidate status.
