Opposition groups reject allegations over“confidential talks” with ruling party

The Strategy Agmashenebeli and Lelo for Georgia parliamentary opposition parties on Thursday rejected allegations by the For Georgia party over having “confidential talks” with the ruling Georgian Dream party, along with the United National Movement – the largest opposition group in the country. 

Paata Manjgaladze, from Strategy Agmashenebeli, said “anyone raising such allegations are the same type of a saboteur as the ruling party”.  
Raising counter allegations to the For Georgia party, David Usupashvili, a Lelo for Georgia party member, said exchange of views were taking place with the GD over certain bills. 

“We, the Lelo for Georgia, have officially registered the draft law on changes to the election code. Its committee hearing was scheduled, at this hearing I personally appealed to the majority to stop the consideration of the bill for more consultations because the GD bill was also discussed in the legislative body. “ 

“I personally stated more than once that while the ruling party-proposed bill was being examined by the Venice Commission, we had a dialogue on what topics could be included in our bill”, Usupashvili said. 

Mikheil Daushvili, an MP of the For Georgia party, on Thursday accused the three  opposition groups of holding “confidential talks” with the ruling Georgian party amid their boycott to participate in a work with the GD for the country’s European Union membership candidate status.
