Aleko Elisashvili, a leader of the Strong Georgia coalition, has been returned to the Dusheti temporary detention center in eastern Georgia following outpatient treatment at the Vivamedi Tbilisi clinic.
The clinic confirmed that Elisashvili was discharged late on Thursday evening after receiving medical care. “He was with us yesterday, received outpatient services, and was discharged the same day,” a clinic representative told the press.
Elisashvili’s lawyer, Giorgi Rekhviashvili, said that they are awaiting further information about his health. “The medical institution has not provided details, and obtaining such information takes time. We expect to know more when he is transferred to Tbilisi, as the preventive measure hearing is scheduled for today,” Rekhviashvili said.
Elisashvili was detained on Wednesday at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Tbilisi after a meeting of four opposition parties. His arrest stems from allegations made by Ali Babaev, the chairman of the National Congress of Azerbaijanis of Georgia, who accused Elisashvili of verbal and physical assault. Babaev claimed the incident occurred on December 2 near the Philharmonic Hall and required him to seek medical attention.
