Giorgi Vashadze, a leader of the Strategy Agmashenebeli opposition party, on Tuesday slammed the Government of Georgia action plan for meeting the conditions for initiating accession talks with the European Union, following the country obtaining the bloc’s candidacy this month.

Vashadze claimed the document suggested a lack of commitment towards EU membership and argued that achieving the goal required a change in government and the implementation of rapid reforms, a task he believes falls under the responsibility of the united opposition.

The European Commission in November raised nine conditions for opening accession talks with Georgia, which includes a wide range of reforms.

The European Council met the Commission’s recommendation for Georgia’s candidacy on December 14, which means now the country needs to meet conditions for opening of accession talks with the bloc on its EU integration path.
