Opposition MP alleges political revenge on ex-Pres. Saakashvili visit restriction

Tamar Kordzaia, an opposition MP, on Wednesday raised concerns regarding the restriction on visiting Former president Mikheil Saakashvili, labeling it as political revenge. During a briefing, Kordzaia highlighted the “unjustified limitation” on accessing Saakashvili in a Tbilisi civilian clinic, attributing it to “systemic disorder and planned illegality”.

 

“Members of the Parliament of Georgia have been unjustly barred from visiting Mikheil Saakashvili for over a year now,” stated Kordzaia. “Despite my efforts to challenge this prohibition through legal means, including filing a lawsuit last year, we have yet to secure a court hearing on the matter. This delay raises serious questions about the fairness of the judicial process.”

 

Kordzaia outlined the sequence of events leading to the restriction, revealing interactions between government officials and security services. “It became evident that various governmental bodies, including the security service, Ministry of Justice, Parliament, and the court system, are implicated in preventing our access to Saakashvili,” she explained.

 

“This situation not only infringes upon our constitutional rights but also represents a clear case of political retaliation against Saakashvili and the opposition,” Kordzaia emphasized. “The deliberate obstruction and illegality surrounding this issue must be addressed to uphold the principles of justice and democracy in our country.”
