Opposition MP Salome Samadashvili from Lelo party has accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of repressing the president following the Georgian Dream’s move to address the country’s Constitutional Court to confirm that President Salome Zourabichvili breached the law when she visited the EU-member states without the government’s consent shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Today, when you (Georgian Dream) announced, in fact, the preparations for the impeachment proceedings against the President of Georgia, I have to remind you that you are telling the public and the international community that you are beginning to harass and prosecute the president for supporting the Georgian people,” Samadashvili stated today.
She said that the ruling party is ‘trying to punish the president’ for her meetings with French presidents and top EU officials “to protect the country’s interests, to push forward Georgia’s EU membership issue and loudly express support for Ukraine.”
