Anna Natsvlishvili, a member of the Strong Georgia opposition coalition, on Thursday emphasized the importance of a recent US Senate hearing on Georgia, stating it underscored the need for the country to return to its European path through the forthcoming elections. Speaking during a briefing, she pointed to the October 26 general elections as a “turning point” that could decide Georgia’s future direction.

Natsvlishvili argued that the Senate hearing highlighted the dangers posed by the current government’s alleged alignment with Russian interests and its “negative impact” on Georgia’s European integration.

She further stressed the Georgian Dream government, through its “adoption of the Russian law” and its broader policies, had “stalled the country’s progress” toward the European Union and put its strategic partnership with the United States “at risk”.

The MP noted that without a “decisive shift in leadership”, Georgia risked further isolation from the democratic world, with “severe economic consequences for its citizens”. “The hearing made clear that the current government serves the Kremlin rather than the interests of Georgia and its people”.

The GD authorities have slammed the hearing as “lacking civility” and disappointing” with “fake accusations”.
