The allegations of smuggling require evidence. If there is no evidence, the Ukrainian side should apologize, said Giorgi Vashadze, the Georgian opposition MP and the leader of Strategy Aghmashenebeli party, on Kyiv’s allegations that Tbilisi was ready to allow Russia to use the Georgian territory for smuggling.
Vashadze noted the Georgian government needed to take ‘particular steps’ in order to end the speculations.
“If it is a lie, the discussions should end. In cooperation with the special services of our partner countries, we should fully check the loads being transferred from Georgia to Russia. If it is a lie, it is a strong accusation, which will have an appropriate response, including from our political group. Particular steps are required, the cooperation of the Georgian special services with the European, British, American counterparts, in order to fully investigate the issue. If it is false, it needs a relevant explanation from the Ukrainian side on where this information had come from,” Vashadze explained.
Vashadze added the ‘whole world’ was monitoring Russia’s attempts to bypass sanctions and called on the Georgian State Security Service to look into the allegations.
