Opposition leaders in Georgia have called on the European Union to take concrete measures against the ruling Georgian Dream party during discussions with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) visiting Tbilisi. The talks centered on the country’s European integration and allegations of political repression.

Representatives from Unity-National Movement, Strong Georgia, Coalition for Change, and Gakharia for Georgia requested MEPs to explore sanctions and other steps to hold those in power accountable. Tina Bokuchava of the Unity-National Movement described the current situation as a “decisive battle” for Georgia’s European future.

“The repressions we’ve witnessed underline the regime’s disregard for its people. International partners must act swiftly to ensure accountability,” Bokuchava said.

Nika Melia, leader of the Coalition for Change, echoed the need for decisive action, warning that resolutions without follow-through risk losing credibility.

“Resolutions must lead to action. Georgia remains isolated under this regime, and international support is crucial,” Melia said.

The meeting was part of a broader visit by the MEPs, who also plan to engage with civil society, media representatives, and President Salome Zourabichvili.
