A Tbilisi court has ordered pre-trial detention for former Prosecutor General and businessman Otar Partskhaladze, who is accused of orchestrating the contract killing of businessman Levan Jangveladze.
The decision was announced by Judge Eka Barbakadze of the Tbilisi City Court. The detention order was issued in absentia, as Partskhaladze is currently outside Georgia.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor’s Office brought formal charges against Partskhaladze after gathering evidence indicating that he led an organised criminal group responsible for the premeditated, financially motivated killing of Jangveladze.
Investigators allege that the murder was carried out on commission and that Partskhaladze played a leadership role in planning and directing the crime.
