Vladimir Konstantinidi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia and a member of the ruling Georgian Dream party stated that unofficial estimates suggest that more than 1.5 million Georgians reside abroad.
Speaking at a session of the Parliament’s Committee on Diaspora and Caucasus Issues, Konstantinidi explained that these figures are based on information collected from embassies, diaspora organizations, and long-term observations.
He noted that the data remains unofficial, as a significant portion of Georgian emigrants live in foreign countries without legal status.
“This represents multiple waves of emigration. We have gathered data from those who left Georgia since the early 1990s up until today,” Konstantinidi stated.
He also highlighted that the majority of the Georgian diaspora is concentrated in European countries.
