Conflict analyst Paata Zakareishvili has cautioned that any attempt by the United States to forcibly remove Iran’s supreme leader could trigger widespread unrest and violence.
“The main risk is if the Americans try to depose the Shah by heavy-handed methods. A large part of the population will not consent, and while some may, the entire security apparatus will not obey. This is predictable and could lead to protests, shootings, and civilian casualties,” Zakareishvili said.
He stressed that negotiations should focus on selecting a new, acceptable supreme leader, rather than abrupt regime change.
“The abolition of the Ayatollah system will not happen overnight. Talks are necessary to neutralize tensions. There are at least five to six Ayatollahs who could serve as respectable figures, implement reforms, and ease the situation in Iran,” he added.
