A Georgian parliamentary delegation visiting Canada has met members of the Georgian diaspora in Toronto, during a visit led by Deputy Speaker of Parliament and head of the Georgia-Canada Friendship Group, Nino Tsilosani.

The meeting took place at the Iveria Church of the Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, where participants discussed the activities of the Georgian community and the challenges facing Georgian nationals living in Canada.

According to the Parliament's press service, it was noted that the church building was acquired and developed through the joint efforts and support of the parish's rector, Father Thomas, and members of the Georgian diaspora.

Delegation members also visited a Sunday school operating on the church grounds, where Georgian children study their native language, Georgian literature and the history of Georgia. They were also introduced to a dance group where young members of the community learn traditional Georgian folk dances.

During the meeting, lawmakers thanked diaspora representatives and Sunday school teachers for their contribution to preserving Georgian identity, culture and traditions outside the country.

The participants underlined the importance of maintaining close and continuous ties with Georgians living abroad, noting that support for the diaspora remains one of the priorities of the Georgian state and parliament.

Special attention was also paid to the role of the diaspora in strengthening relations between Georgia and Canada. Participants said members of the Georgian community in Canada serve as an important bridge between the two countries, helping to deepen cooperation and promote Georgia's cultural diplomacy.

The delegation includes Nino Tsilosani, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Diaspora Committee Irakli Zarkua, Deputy Committee Chair Gocha Enukidze, Chair of the Sports Committee Viktor Sanikidze and Deputy Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee Giorgi Khakhubia.
