Georgia’s parliament is expected to approve the creation of a temporary parliamentary commission to study the pricing structure of food products, medicines and fuel, lawmakers have said.

The draft resolution establishing the commission was presented to the parliamentary bureau on Monday. Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said the resolution would be adopted at a plenary session on Tuesday.

Papuashvili noted the Procedural Issues Committee will determine the number of commission members as well as quotas for parliamentary factions and political groups. These groups are required to submit their nominees to the bureau by 4 February, after which the commission will be formally constituted.

“The commission will be able to begin full-scale work from Thursday,” Papuashvili said.
