Parliament chair Papuashvili: 67% of Georgians support gov’t ‘cautious’ policy to Russia -Ukraine war

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili says that 67 percent of Georgians support the cautious policy of the government towards the Russia-Ukraine war, responding to Gorbi public polls commissioned by Imedi TV channel.

 

“The majority of Georgians believe that the government’s position not to get involved in the war, as well as cautious policy towards economic sanctions, is right,” Papuashvili said today.

 

He stated that the ‘radical opposition’ has attempted to ‘drag the country into the conflict,’ but the ‘reasonable approach’ of the government had prevented this to happen.

 

PM Irakli Garibashvili also stated today that ‘thanks to the government’s policy, there is peace in Georgia.’

 

“An unprecedented war is raging in the region. Nevertheless, we, the government, with our reasonable and state-interest-based policy, have managed that there is peace and stability in the country, and it will continue like this. I want to call on everyone for peace and consolidation. Our nation must be united and strong. We must continue to serve our country,” Garibashvili said.

 

The opposition claims that the current government is trying to please Russia and is not sufficiently supportive of Ukraine.
