Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, on Thursday expelled Aleko Elisashvili, the Citizens MP, from the session after the latter requested a speech against Irakli Beraia, the chair of the Parliament’s Defence Committee, who last week spoke in a humiliating context and insulted the opposition female MP Teona Akubardia, his deputy in the Committee.

After turning off the microphone, Elisashvili continued to speak and called the majority lawmakers “disgraceful”, which led to his dismissal from the session.

“This is not an ordinary story – a woman was insulted for all of Georgia to hear, an unworthy man, who is the chairman of the Defense Committee, spoke abominable things,” said Elisashvili before his dismissal.

The opposition members are demanding the dismissal of Beraia from the committee chair, who along with insulting his colleague, also unveiled the details of her private life in his comments.
