Georgia, as a transit country, is of great importance for Armenia in terms of reliable and safe supply of energy resources, communications, and telecommunications, said the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, after opening a new bridge near the Georgian-Armenian border with the Georgian PM on Friday.

The Armenian PM suggested that the two countries could further enhance ties in the fields of trade and economy, cyber and border security, education, sports and others, and could get involved in different international projects.

In his remarks, Pashinyan also said that the trade turnover between Georgia and Armenia increased by 97 percent compared to the same period of the last year.

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili stated that the new, 160-meter-long bridge over the river of Debeda, was of international importance as it was a part of the East-West highway.

He thanked the  European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which allocated more than seven million euros for the construction of the bridge.
