Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan is considered relieved of his post by force of law. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote about this on his Facebook page.

He also published a statement posted on the official page of the government on the release of Onik Gasparyan from the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces by force of law.

“Guided by the provisions of the RA Constitution and the RA Law“ On Military Service and the Status of a Serviceman ”, on February 25, 2021, the RA Prime Minister submitted a proposal to the President of the republic to dismiss Onik Gasparyan, Chief of the RA Armed Forces General Staff, the corresponding draft decree was attached.

On February 27, 2021, the Prime Minister's office received objections from the President of the Republic on the above project.

The objections presented by the President by the Prime Minister were not accepted. On February 28, a letter with appropriate justifications was sent to the President of Armenia.

Considering the fact that within the time frame established by Part 3 of Article 35.1 of the RA Law "On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen", the President of the Republic did not sign the draft submitted by the Prime Minister and did not apply to the Constitutional Court, taking as a basis part 3 of Article 139 of the RA Constitution, as well as part 6 of article 35.1 of the RA law "On military service and the status of a serviceman" and part 3 of article 40 of the same law, since March 10, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan is considered dismissed by law.
