Passenger traffic at Georgian airports recovered to 69% of pre-pandemic level

The passenger traffic at Georgian airports has recovered to 69% of the pre-coronavirus pandemic level, while the flights recovered to 70% in the first six months of 2022, the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency said Tuesday.

 

The agency stated that Georgia had served a total of  1, 716, 718 passengers in the reported period, which was 189% more compared to the same data of 2021.

 

A total of 8,556 flights have been made in the airports of Georgia in the first six months of this year, of which regular flights were  6,785, and the  charter flights –  1,771.

 

The number of flights have increased by 84% compared to the same period in 2019, while the recovery rate was 70%.

 

The volume of cargo transported by air in the reported period amounted to 8,788,996 tons, while it stood at 8,717,282 tons in the same period of 2021.

 

Compared to last year, cargo turnover increased by 0.82% as cargo air traffic in Georgia has not been suspended due to the pandemic.

 

The use of the country’s air space has increased by 46% compared to the same data of 2021, while the use of the airspace has decreased by 15% compared to the pre-pandemic period, with a recovery rate reaching  85%.

 

In total, over the past six months, 54,591 flights were recorded in the airspace of Georgia.
