Patriarch wishes ex-pres. Saakashvili “spiritual strength” to foresign “true reality”

Georgian patriarch Ilia II has sent a letter to imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili, expressing gratitude for his congratulations on his enthronement 45 years ago and wishing him  “health, courage and, first of all, a spiritual strength to foresight a true reality”. 

Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in political exile. 

He is currently serving his six-year-sentence for abuse of power and demanding a transfer abroad for “proper treatment”.
