Pawel Herczynski to replace Hartzell as a new EU ambassador to Georgia

Pawel Herczynski, current Director for Security Policy at the European Union’s External Action Service, is expected to replace the EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell who has occupied the position since September 2018.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Joseph Borrell has already nominated the heads of 31 EU delegations.
They will be formally appointed after receiving the relevant agreements from the host countries.
Hartzell is expected to leave Georgia at the end of July, while the new ambassador is likely to take office in September.
Herczynski is currently overseeing the EU’s external security policies in the areas of non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament; counter-terrorism/countering violent extremism; cyber, maritime and space security as well as EU sanctions.
Prior to joining the EEAS he served as Representative of Poland to the Political and Security Committee of the EU in Brussels, covering CFSP and CSDP issues.
He held several senior positions within the MFA of Poland both in the headquarters and abroad, including Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Deputy Director of the EU Department – European Correspondent, Head of the Iraq Task Team and Deputy Representative to the NATO Political Committee in Brussels.
He holds a Master Degree in International Economics from Warsaw School of Economics. He studied in Poland, Germany, Spain, Japan and China.
