Georgians over 18 will be allowed to get the second Covid-19 booster dose in Georgia with the German-US Pfizer vaccine as daily infections are on an upward trend, the Immunization Council working in coordination with the government said on Thursday.

The permission will go into play as soon as a relevant document is published in the coming days.

All individuals over 18, no matter of their health condition, will be able to get the second booster shot.

Up to now only those over 50 were allowed to receive the second booster dose.

Georgia reported 2,570 new cases of Covid-19 last week, with the figure for weekly confirmed cases over the weeks featuring an upward trend.

The county has officially confirmed 1,662,299 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020.

The virus has claimed 16,844 lives since April 2020.
