Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says that Russia would only use nuclear weapons if its very existence were threatened.

Peskov’s comment came as CNN interviewer Christiane Amanpour pushed him on whether he was “convinced or confident” that President Vladimir Putin would not use the nuclear option in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The US says that Russia’s statements on the possible use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine carry threats.

The Pentagon says that Russian soldiers in Ukraine ‘have serious shortages of food, fuel and warm clothes.’

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
