The United National Movement (UNM) will not take part in what it calls a “Russian special operation,” and instead is calling on citizens to gather on Rustaveli Avenue on October 4, the party’s Secretary General Petre Tsiskarishvili said on Saturday.
“Former President Mikheil Saakashvili’s party, the UNM, is not participating in this Russian special operation. On October 4, we must all stand together on Rustaveli Avenue,” Tsiskarishvili said.
As part of an awareness campaign ahead of October 4, Tsiskarishvili, together with UNM’s regional secretary Giorgi Botkoveli and party leader Jeikhun Muhamedali, visited Marneuli in the Kvemo Kartli region. They distributed leaflets and urged locals to join the protest in the capital city of Tbilisi.
“We toured the Kvemo Kartli region, specifically Marneuli, to inform the public that a fraudulent political organisation, posing as number 5, is attempting to misuse the UNM’s name as part of this Russian special operation. They are trying to win support and mislead voters into marking number 5. It is crucial that everyone knows we are not part of this farce. We are calling on people to come to Rustaveli Avenue on October 4 instead of participating in the elections,” Tsiskarishvili said.
