Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sent a letter of condolence to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze following the death of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II.

In his message, Pashinyan said he was saddened by the news, describing Ilia II’s life and work as a symbol of faith, patriotism, and friendship between nations. 

“During nearly half a century of leadership, his contribution to the development of spiritual life, the unity of society, and the strengthening of statehood will remain in lasting memory,” the letter read.

On behalf of the Armenian people, Pashinyan extended his sincere condolences to the Georgian government, the Georgian Orthodox Church, and the Georgian people, wishing them strength and resilience during this difficult time.

Patriarch Ilia II, who led the Georgian Orthodox Church for decades, passed away on 17 March at the age of 93.
