Germany’s ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, has expressed gratitude to those who joined a solidarity rally in Tbilisi on Saturday night, held in recognition of Germany’s role and in support of the envoy.

“Great respect and thanks to everyone who came out last night in Tbilisi to express gratitude to Germany and solidarity with me,” Fischer wrote on social media. He added that the demonstration also sent a message against attacks on foreign diplomats and highlighted support for Georgia’s democracy and European path.

Fischer underlined that “Georgia has an invitation from the EU,” stressing that both Germany and the European Union were committed to supporting the country’s integration.

The march, held on 28 September and described as the “Georgian-German Friendship March,” came amid wider debates over Georgia’s relations with Europe.
