German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, on Friday clarified that Georgia's exclusion from the informal EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Warsaw was a direct result of the European Union's ongoing concerns over the political crisis in the country.

Fischer explained that the EU had suspended high-level contacts with Georgia last June due to this unresolved crisis, which continues to impact Georgia's relations with the bloc.

"Because in June last year, the European Union decided to suspend high-level contacts with the Georgian government until it resolves the current crisis," Fischer said.

He further expressed hope that Georgia would "return to the right path," while making it clear that the responsibility for achieving this lies with the Georgian people. "We hope, but it depends on Georgia, and what is Georgia? Georgia is the Georgian people. When joining the European Union, not only the government, parliament, or business sector, but everyone becomes a member. So, a great national effort is needed to join," he added.
