The ruling party, Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday emphasized the importance of obtaining a constitutional majority in the upcoming October elections to pass a constitutional bill titled On Family Values and Protection of Minors.

This legislation is designed to elevate the protection of family values and minors to the highest, constitutional level, according to a statement released by the party.

The party noted that with the passage of this bill, measures such as the legalization of same-sex marriage, civil partnerships, child adoption by same-sex couples, gender reassignment surgeries, and non-binary gender recognition will be constitutionally prohibited. Georgian Dream argued that the issues, along with the spread of “pseudo-liberal ideology” in educational institutions and the media, have had severe consequences in other countries.

The statement also drew attention to the recent opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, which the party criticized for including elements that they believed insulted Christian religious sentiments and promoted LGBT propaganda. Georgian Dream asserted that the ideology behind the actions was not about protecting human rights but is aimed at undermining personal dignity, morality, and identity.

The ruling party argued that obtaining a constitutional majority was crucial to prevent what they describe as the dangerous spread of pseudo-liberal ideology and to ensure the protection of traditional family values and minors at the constitutional level.
