Georgian Parliament initiates tightened regulations on pyrotechnics amid use by protesters

Georgia’s Parliament has introduced a legislative package imposing stricter regulations on the import, export, production, and sale of pyrotechnic products amid their use by demonstrators protesting the Government’s decision to halt the country’s EU integration until 2028.

The proposed measures include permit Requirements – all activities involving pyrotechnics will require permits or licenses. Violators face fines of up to 5,000 GEL, with repeat offenses resulting in higher penalties and possible confiscation of goods.

Sales restrictions – selling pyrotechnics to unauthorized individuals will incur fines of up to 3,000 GEL for repeat violations.

Criminal penalties – improper handling or illegal transfer of pyrotechnics leading to serious consequences may result in fines, house arrest, or imprisonment for up to five years.

The legislative package, authored by members of the ruling Georgian Dream party, including Rati Ionatamishvili and Nino Tsilosani, also aims to curb potential misuse by implementing stricter oversight and accountability.
