Levan Davitashvili, the Georgian Minister of Economy, on Friday dismissed the allegations by the opposition-minded TV channels, that a plane that had been sanctioned for Russia’s war in Ukraine, entered the Georgian airspace earlier this month.

Calling the allegations “fake”, Davitashvili said that the aircraft was not on the list of sanctioned companies.

“Unfortunately, we regularly hear unverified information aimed at harming the country’s interests. Of course, Georgia fully complies with international rules. The company that used Georgian airspace regularly flies, including to European countries.

“The aircraft is not on the list of sanctioned companies. Our aviation agencies, navigation, gave it  the right to fly over Georgia in compliance with all the rules”, said Davitashvili.

The Georgian Economy Ministry on Thursday said on Thursday that an Iran Air Cargo aircraft had made a flight from Yerevan to Moscow on Sunday, spending 10 minutes in Georgian airspace.

The Ministry said the aircraft had not been under sanctions and egularly performed flights both in the direction of Tbilisi and other European cities.
