Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Monday said his office planned to hold a “common public national celebration, a concert” after the European Council granted Georgia the EU’s membership candidate status in mid-December.
Speaking at the Government meeting, he noted the decision was expected to come on December 15.
“[the country] is awaiting the final decision on the status either on the 14th or 15th of December, we will clarify this date, probably it will happen on the 15th, [and] we want to hold a common public national celebration, let’s call it a victory celebration and a concert, and celebrate together the historic victory of our country and our people, the result of the Government’s work”, he said.
The European Commission in November recommended the EU Council to grant Georgia the candidate status, while it also recommended the opening of accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova, as they were granted the status in June 2022.
All the three countries of the EU’s Associated Trio applied for the bloc’s membership after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year, in February and March.
