Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has congratulated the public on the St. Andrew Day, who is also dubbed as the ‘First Called’ as he was the first of the twelve Apostles to be called by Jesus.
Garibashvili said on Thursday that “for more than two millennia, the Savior’s words and gospel values have defined our identity, history, culture, statehood, and way of life, and these values have shaped the political ideals of democracy, human freedom, peace, and prosperity and formed the basis of modern Western civilization.”
He stated that now, “when Georgia is too close to its historic goal to return to the European family, the country’s spiritual and national values back the country on this path.”
“I cordially congratulate the public on the day when Andrew the First-Called arrived in Georgia and on the Georgian National Day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary!
“At the beginning of anno domini, the first apostle of Christ laid the foundation for the spread of Christianity in the country of Virgin Mary (referring to Georgia),” Garibashvili stated.
Today is a day off in Georgia.
