PM, culture ministry send condolences over death of well-known actor Tamar Skhirtladze

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili and the country’s culture ministry on Thursday sent their condolences over the death of a well-known Georgian film and theater actor Tamar Skhirtladze, who died on Wednesday, aged 93. 

Paying homage to the long career of the artist, featuring in a film in 2012 for the last time, Garibashvili said he was “deeply saddened” by her death and noted that Skhirtladze’s deeds would be remembered by generations. 

Born in 1929, the actor was part of the Marjanishvili Theatre company in the country between 1949-1967 and Rustavi theater between 1967-1975, having reviewed a number of awards during her career, including the Meritorious Artist of Georgia and the state Order of Honour.
