Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili says that fuel price in Georgia is cheaper than in 99 foreign states, while the price has hit its historic maximum in Georgia and is almost over four GEL for one liter.
Speaking at today’s governmental meeting, Garibashvili accused the opposition of backing protests in Georgia against increased prices of fuel, stating that Europe is facing the worst economic crisis since WWII.
“Amid the war (between Russia and Ukraine), which is the largest war in Europe, and the severe challenges the world is facing, the Georgian government is trying to achieve economic growth.”
“As of March 21, Georgia was 71st among 170 countries in the world in terms of the price of one liter of gasoline. 99 countries have more expensive fuel, oil than Georgia. Gas prices have also risen sharply in Europe and reached $ 3,900 per cubic meter,” Garibashvili said.
He stated that thanks to the contract signed with Azerbaijan under the Georgian Dream government ‘the cheapest gas in Europe is in Georgia, after Azerbaijan.’
“ Therefore, we ask everyone to show more responsibility in this situation, in such a crisis, and refrain from misleading the public,” Garibashvili said.
The opposition has responded that the government is trying to ‘shift all blame onto the opposition.’
