From the very first day of the war, Georgia has been expressing full solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people which has been evidenced by various political and diplomatic steps in bilateral or multilateral formats, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told lawmakers on Friday.

He stated that “Georgia strongly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.”

“Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine is, of course, a gross violation of fundamental norms and principles of international law, as well as of the UN Charter which poses an unprecedented challenge to European security,” said the PM.

“In this situation, from the very first day of the war, Georgia has expressed its full solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Otherwise it would be impossible, because we have a historical friendship with Ukraine, our countries have common European and Euro-Atlantic goals,” Garibashvili suggested.

He stated that the Parliament of Georgia was one of the first to adopt a resolution in support of Ukraine.

“In many public statements, our top officials have condemned Russia’s military aggression against sovereign Ukraine. The Georgian parliament was one of the first to pass the resolution. In April the Georgian parliamentary delegation led by Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili arrived in Ukraine and visited the war-torn cities of Bucha and Irpin along with the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada,” he said.
