PM Garibashvili: rallies demanding Georgian gov’t resignation amid war in Ukraine ‘anti-state’

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili says that recent rallies in parliament and the administration building of the government of Georgia, demanding the resignation of current authorities, were ‘anti-state,’ triggered by ‘radical and treacherous groups.’

 

“In no country in the world, during the Russia-Ukraine war, were the protests held demanding the resignation of the government.”

 

“We are occupied and the Russian army is standing on our territory, we live with the Russian army and in this very unpredictable situation holding such rallies were absolutely unacceptable and incomprehensible,”Garibashvili said while visiting Marneuli today in estern Georgia.

 

He stated that the rallies were organized by ‘anti-national and treacherous groups.’

 

Earlier he said that the United National Movement opposition party stood behind the rallies.

 

Thousands of demonstrators have gathered in Tbilisi several times to protest the government’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine war and the refusal of the Georgian Dream government to impose sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
