Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili, who appeared in the state legislature on Wednesday to speak about government activities, called opposition members “traitors” for “hampering Georgia’s European integration,” and those “who need treatment,” as the opposition MPs noisily protested several of PM’s allegations and statements.

Garibashvili began his speech by saying that the European Commision had made a “historic decision and a long-awaited record had emerged,” referring to the Commission’s recommendation of Georgia to be granted European perspective, while Ukraine and Moldova both the perspective and candidate status.

The opposition, who had accused the authorities “of losing the historic chance for candidacy,” protested the PM’s words, which was followed by Garibashvili’s accusations towards them.

He reiterated that the opposition representatives had done “their utmost” to hamper Georgia’s European integration.

He claimed that former Speaker of the Parliament under the United National Movement, Davit Bakradze, “begged Europeans” not to grant Georgia visa free travel under the Georgian Dream authorities.

“Mr. Davit Bakradze, a man who was the speaker of the parliament and was sitting in this chair, did so,” Garibashvili said, adding that current opposition leaders did the same ahead of the European Commission recommendations.

When the opposition protested the words, Garibashvili stated: “miracle, all of them need treatment.”
