PM hails Govt’s efforts for peace at EUMM Georgia 15th anniversary

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday hailed the efforts of the Georgian Dream authorities to ensure “continuous peace over the past 10 years”, at an event in Tbilisi dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia. 

 

In his address the head of the Government pointed to Georgia’s conflicts with Russia, including the latest one in 2008, and stressed the country was “well-aware of the price of conflicts”. 

 

He also said the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war had demonstrated the need to resolve regional conflicts, Russia-Georgia conflict among them, and added his Government was ready to ensure help and support to “every citizen of the country”, including those living in the currently Russian-controlled Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions. 

 

Garibashvili also highlighted the EUMM mission as a “symbol of close cooperation and strong support of our European friends”, and claimed his office was ready to ensure all necessary support. 

 

The mission was deployed in Georgia after Russia’s invasion in 2008 and is the only foreign mission observing developments adjacent to occupied territories. 

 

Russia and the de facto authorities do not allow its entry to the occupied regions.
